GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 152 following 21.900 tests performed nationwide in past 24 hours

A number of 152 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the past 24 hours, with almost 21,900 tests performed, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Sunday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test.

As of Sunday, 1,083,341 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania, and 1,047,767 patients have been declared cured.

To date, 8,704,268 RT-PCR tests and 1,855,687 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationally.

In the past 24 hours, 10,802 RT-PCR tests were performed (2,770 based on the case definition and the medical protocol and 8,032 on request) and 11,097 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 19 people were reconfirmed positively.


59 patients infected with COVID-19 in ICU; 411 persons hospitalized


A number of 411 people infected with the new coronavirus are hospitalized in the specialized health units, out of which 59 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Sunday.

On the Romanian territory, 1,049 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in isolation at home, and 526 are in institutionalized isolation.

Also, 48,575 people are in quarantine at home, and there are 76 in institutionalized quarantine.

In the past 24 hours, 227 calls were registered to the unique emergency number 112.


No death recorded in COVID-19 patients in past 24hrs; five deaths from before registered in the system


No deaths were reported in the past 24 hours in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but five deaths were registered in the system from before the reference period, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Sunday.

According to GCS, these are three men and two women who were hospitalized in Mures County.

Two deaths were recorded in the age category 60 – 69 years, one in the age of 70 – 79 years and two in the age category over 80 years.

All deaths are from patients who had comorbidities.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 34,289 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.


Most new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the Capital City – 31; zero cases in 16 counties


Most newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 compared to the last report were recorded in Bucharest – 31, Constanta – 13 and Ilfov – 12 counties, the Strategic Communication Group reported on Sunday.

No new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in 16 counties.

All counties and the municipality of Bucharest remain in the green scenario in terms of infections with the novel coronavirus, the highest incidence rate per thousand inhabitants having been recorded in Ilfov county – 0.19.
