Solid wood furniture manufacturer Nord Arin has completed the installation of 360 solar panels on the main warehouse of its production facility located near Piatra-Neamt, following an investment exceeding
EUR 100,000. The photovoltaic system will cover, with the help of renewable energy, up to 25% of the monthly electricity consumption of the Nord Arin factory.
”As our production facility expands, we try to adapt our activity in order to maintain a low carbon footprint and to minimize our impact on the surrounding environment and community”, says Viorel Crețu, CEO Nord Arin. ”In the following years, we aim to focus more and more on sustainability, from capitalizing on green energy and involvement in circular economy projects, to including sustainable materials and bio coatings on the furniture we produce. Given the ongoing increase of the factory’s production capacity and the recent acquisition of new machines and industrial equipment, the photovoltaic system also has a positive impact on the electricity consumption of the company.”
The installation of the new photovoltaic system is part of a more extensive sustainability strategy that Nord Arin is currently developing. The wood that ends up on the Nord Arin furniture pieces is handpicked from trusted sources, exclusively from Romania, thus reducing the pollution caused by long distance road transportation. In addition, all the thermal energy used in the company is green energy, generated in-house, from wood waste. Other actions, such as selective waste collection, finishing more than 85% of its products with low-VOC oils, as well as tree planting campaigns are among the sustainability measures taken by Nord Arin during recent years.
In the last two years, Nord Arin has also established partnerships with top technical universities from Romania, with a view to researching and developing innovative products, made from sustainable materials, and also to supporting large-scale projects on sustainability. Through the recent partnership established with Transilvania University of Brașov, Nord Arin aims, as Associated Partner in the CENTRA project, coordinated by CENFIN – Furnishing Cluster, to contribute to the project dissemination activities spreading information about training courses on the topic of circular economy, available for both business representatives and university students.
The Nord Arin Research & Development Department is currently working on furniture concepts mixing wood with sustainable, recycled materials. The R&D specialists are working on identifying and integrating eco-friendly materials and coatings into the solid wood furniture they design, in close collaboration with Voicu Ștefan Crețu, Head of Design at Nord Arin, who represents the third generation of the Crețu family currently working in the company.
