GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 1.520 following over 43.000 tests performed in the last 24 hours

As many as 1,520 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 were recorded in the last 24 hours in Romania following over 43,000 tests nationwide, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Friday.

These are cases of patients that have not previously tested positive.

As of Friday, 1,103,198 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Romania. Of these, 1,057,522 were declared cured.

To date, 9,143,856 RT-PCR tests and 2,478,010 rapid antigen tests have been processed nationwide.

In the last 24 hours, 16,943 RT-PCR tests were performed (5,951 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 10,992 on request) and 26,352 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 262 people were reconfirmed positive.


345 COVID-19 patients in intensive care out of 2,772 hospitalisations


As many as 2,772 people with COVID-19 are hospitalised in Romania at specialist care facilities, out of whom 345 in intensive care, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the official novel coronavirus communication task force, reported on Friday.

According to GCS, out of the total number of hospitalised patients, 99 are minors, 97 being hospitalised in wards and two in intensive care units.

In Romania, 9,242 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus are in isolation at home and 2,586 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 55,034 people are in quarantine at home and 52 in institutional quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 1,033 COVID-19 related calls were reported to the 112 emergency line and 559 to the 0800 800 358 toll-free COVID-19 info line.


33 deaths in COVID-19 patients in last 24 hours


The Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs that in the last 24 hours 33 deaths have been registered in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

No deaths before the reference interval are reported.

According to GCS, these were 16 men and 17 women.

According to the quoted source, 31 of the registered deaths are of some patients who presented comorbidities, 1 deceased patient did not present comorbidities, and for 1 deceased patient no comorbidities have been reported so far.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 34,650 people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died in Romania.


Most new COVID-19 cases in Bucharest and Satu Mare, Timis Ilfov Counties


Most new cases of COVID-19 compared to the last report were registered in Bucharest – 273 and in the counties of Satu Mare – 83, Timis – 77, Ilfov – 63, the Group of Strategic Communication (CGS) informed, on Friday.

The least cases were registered in Harghita – 3, Covasna – 5, Tulcea – 7, Braila – 7.

All the counties and the municipality of Bucharest remain in the green scenario from the point of view of the infections with the new coronavirus, the highest incidence per thousand inhabitants being in Ilfov County – 1.09 and in the Capital – 0.93.
