GCS: Romania’s COVID-19 daily case count rises by 1.849 following over 22.000 tests performed nationwide in past 24 hours

A number of 1,849 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the past 24 hours, with over 22,000 tests performed, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informed on Monday.

These are cases that have not previously had a positive test.

As of Monday, 1,122,653 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania and 1,065,989 patients have been declared cured.

To date, 9,278,258 RT-PCR tests and 2,711,582 rapid antigen tests have been processed to date.

In the past 24 hours, 6,126 RT-PCR tests were performed (2,701 based on the case definition and the medical protocol and 3,425 on request) and 15,906 rapid antigen tests.

Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 142 people were reconfirmed to be positive.


633 COVID-19 patients are in intensive care; 5,288 persons hospitalized, 162 of them children


A number of 5,288 people infected with the novel coronavirus are hospitalized in the specialized medical units, out of which 162 children, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday.

According to the same source, 633 patients are now in intensive care, of whom 10 are children.

In Romania, 17,693 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in isolation at home and 4,683 are in institutional isolation.

Also, 53,571 people are in quarantine at home, and 236 people are in institutionalized quarantine.

In the past 24 hours, 1,609 calls were recorded to the single emergency number 112.


46 deaths registered in COVID-19 patients


In the last 24 hours, 46 deaths were registered in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) informs on Monday.

According to the GCS, it is about 28 men and 18 women.

According to the GCS, 41 of the recorded deaths were in patients who had comorbidities, four deceased patients had no comorbidities, and no comorbidities had been reported so far for one deceased patient.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 35,036 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died in Romania.


Most new cases of COVID recorded in Bucharest (249); Satu Mare County – in yellow scenario


Most new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection, compared to the last report, were recorded in Bucharest – 249 and in Cluj – 143, Timis – 121 and Constanta – 99 counties, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Monday.

The least cases were reported in the counties of Covasna – 0, Buzau – 3 and Harghita – 8.

Satu Mare County entered the yellow scenario, having an incidence of infections, cumulated at 14 days, of 2.53 cases per thousand inhabitants.

The other counties and the municipality of Bucharest remain in the green scenario from the point of view of the number of infections with the novel coronavirus, the highest incidence per thousand inhabitants being in the counties of Ilfov – 1.77, Bistrita Nasaud – 1.63, Timis – 1.60 and in the Capital City – 1.52.
