Orban resigns as Chamber Speaker: PNL, a house that has caught fire and in which the fire is extinguished with a teaspoon of water

Liberal Deputy Ludovic Orban on Wednesday informs that he has resigned as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

“Five minutes ago I have written my resignation and I have submitted it to the Standing Bureau and the Secretariat General of the Chamber of Deputies,” Orban informed at the Parliament Palace.

Former National Liberal Party’s chairman Ludovic Orban said on Wednesday that the PNL is currently “a house that has caught fire and in which the fire is extinguished with a teaspoon of water”, claiming that, until 2024, if it continues on this line, the party “remains only dust”.

President Klaus Iohannis and the current PNL leadership are guilty of provoking and deepening the political crisis

He said that President Klaus Iohannis and the current PNL leadership are guilty of provoking and deepening the political crisis.

“Responsible not only for provoking the political crisis, but also for deepening the political crisis are both Iohannis and the demolition group that imposed Citu against any internal democracy in the party at the helm of the party. (…) I can’t understand why Iohannis is holding on to Citu, knowing that he’s blowing up the country and artificially prolonging the crisis. I can’t understand. (…) On the road they started on, to 2024 there will nothing left but dust out of PNL. At the moment it is like a house that has caught fire and where the fire is extinguished with the teaspoon of water,” Orban said at the Palace of Parliament, according to Agerpres.

In his opinion, early elections will be reached if Florin Citu is appointed prime minister again.

“Definitely it will come to the early elections, (…) because I can’t imagine who from the Romanian Parliament could vote for Florin Citu as prime minister, because anyone who votes for Florin Citu as prime minister will practically lose the support of the voters who back the respective political party. At present, nobody wants Florin Citu as prime minister anymore,” Ludovic Orban added.

Asked if there would be any understandings between the PNL and the PSD (Social Democratic Party), Orban replied that this would be the “worst” mistake of the president and the PNL leadership.

“The most serious mistake that Iohannis and the PNL leadership can make is to remain hung in the nails of the PSD headquarters. They will be nothing but a scalp at the belt of red skins and they will leave Romania at the mercy of PSD. And so, since the entry into public life of the demolition gang, the PNL has collapsed by 12 – 13 pct in the opinion polls and by some more in terms of favourability, which means that the potential growth is equal to zero and the political formations that have risen are PSD and AUR [Alliance for the Union of Romanians], that is, exactly our natural political opponents who have benefited greatly from the follies and decisions and irrational actions of the political actors who want to impose on Romania today the perpetuation of the crisis,” said the former chairman of the Liberals, according to Agerpres.
