As many as 11,073 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 have been recorded in the last 24 hours, with more than 72,000 tests being carried out, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Tuesday.
Until Tuesday, 1,666,097 cases of people infected with the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Romania, of which 8,636 are reinfected patients, tested positive at a period of more than 180 days after the first infection. According to GCS, 1,429,157 patients were declared cured.
At the national level, up to this date, 10,338,957 RT-PCR tests and 4,514,957 rapid antigen tests have been processed.
In the last 24 hours, 22,560 RT-PCR tests were performed (12,191 based on case definition and medical protocol and 10,369 on request) and 49,671 rapid antigen tests.
Aside from the newly confirmed cases, following the retesting of patients who were already positive, 1,395 people were reconfirmed positive.
1,876 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, including 32 children
A number of 19,987 people infected with SARS-CoV-2, 367 children included, are currently hospitalized in Romania, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) announced on Tuesday.
According to the cited source, 1,876 patients, 32 children included, are in intensive care.
Also, 152,580 people confirmed with the novel coronavirus infection are in isolation at home and 19,598 are in institutional isolation.
Another 58,188 people are in quarantine at home and 92 people are in institutionalized quarantine.
Record of deaths in COVID-19 patients reported in last 24 hours – 591
A total of 591 deaths in patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been reported in the last 24 hours, five of which preceded the reference interval, the Strategic Communication Group (GCS) reported on Tuesday .
This is a negative record since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The five deaths registered prior to the reference interval occurred in the counties of Galati, Ialomita, Prahova and Sibiu, in October 2021. In the respective reference period, 586 deaths had been reported.
According to GCS, 279 men and 312 women hospitalized in 37 counties (out of 41) and in Bucharest died.
Of the 591 deaths, one was registered in the 10-19 years age category, one in the 20-29 years age category, six in the 30-39 years age range, 19 in the 40-49 years age range, 60 in the 50-59 years age category, 162 in the 60-69 years, 187 in the 70-79 years age category and 155 in the over 80 years age category.
555 of the deaths were reported in patients who experienced comorbidities, for 14 patients who died no underlying conditions were reported, and for 22 no comorbidities have been reported so far.
One death occurred in an infected patient abroad and was reported by the Department of Public Health Bucharest.
Out of a total of 591 patients who died, 541 were unvaccinated and 50 were vaccinated. The 50 vaccinated deceased patients ranged in age from 40 to 49 years and over 80 years. All vaccinated deceased patients had comorbidities.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 48,664 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died in Romania.
