Black Friday is both the most important online shopping event in Romania and a moment that highlights the trends and preferences of Romanians for online shopping and payments.
The total value of online transactions made through the PayU platform reached RON 357 million, while their number reached the threshold of 658,000 transactions, increasing by 22% compared to last year.
According to PayU Romania estimates, the volume of transactions paid by customers in online, at merchants that had Black Friday discounts, is over 10 times higher than on an ordinary day, which confirms that the event remains an opportunity that Romanians take advantage of to buy both the goods they want and the ones they usually need, at special prices.
“This year’s edition confirmed that there is still opportunity for growth for the local e-commerce market and that Black Friday is an increasingly relevant event for consumers. The 22% increase in the number of transactions registered in the latest edition of Black Friday disclose that more and more consumers see this event as an opportunity to shop online, and the trend is the diversity of purchased products. Romanians buy online from all product categories. If in the past years the “star” categories were IT&C or fashion, now we see a wider range in purchased products, from coffee or perfumes&beauty to medical services, tour packages and even fuel”, stated Elena Gheorghe, Country Manager PayU Romania.
The number of online shops has increased in the last two years, pushed by the pandemic context, having more and very different offers, which has led to increased competitiveness and, by default, to a higher quality of products and services offered by merchants. At the same time, the efforts to optimize the online shopping process on behalf players involved in the e-commerce market have encouraged consumers to have even greater confidence in online shopping and payments.
“More and more consumers have understood that buying and paying online is simple, fast and safe, as highlighted by the fact that 62% of transactions (+ 60% compared to the previous edition) were made with a card saved in the PayU system or by Google Pay”, mentioned Elena Gheorghe.
