Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu has called on the General Prosecutor Gabriela Scutea, on Thursday, to take the measures necessary to prevent and combat “any type of criminal activity”, such as fraud, abuse of office, and disloyal competition which might occur in the context of the energy crisis and the associated phenomenon of bills increasing.
“Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu has sent to General Prosecutor Gabriela Scutea, today, January 13, 2022, an address by which, on the basis of art. 132, paragraph (1) of the Constitution and art. 69, paragraph (3), second thesis of Law no. 304/2004 [on judicial organization], he called on the Public Ministry to take the necessary measures regarding the legal powers to discover, prevent and combat efficiently any type of criminal activity which may be carried out in the context of the energy crisis and the associated phenomenon of bills increasing, such as fraud, abuse of service, disloyal competition, organized crime group, which may affect the rights of citizens, whose defence represents a constitutional duty of the Public Ministry,” shows a press release remitted, on Thursday, to AGERPRES by the Justice Ministry.
The decision comes after many persons complained they received very high energy bills.
