ForMin Aurescu: Diplomatic dialogue cannot be held under threat of using force

Diplomatic dialogue cannot be held under the threat of using force, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, said for private TV broadcaster Digi24, referring to talks that are taking place between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

“We are following the results of today’s talks between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, but, like I said, I strongly believe, from my experience as diplomat and negotiator, that diplomatic dialogue cannot be held under the threat of using force, under the threat of military aggression that is taking place. Such talks can certainly consider punctual aspects, for example they can refer to a cease fire or they can refer to matters that are regarding managing hostilities, but for the medium and long term these cannot have an adequate result, because they are being held under this pressure, which the Russian Federation is carrying out by using arms, including during the time of these negotiations,” the head of the Romanian diplomacy said.

“Personally, I do not have many expectations, just as the Ukrainian side said before these talks took place,” the Romanian minister of Foreign Affairs added.
