ForMin Bogdan Aurescu to hold political consultations with Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu will have, on Monday, a round of political consultations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic, Luigi Di Maio, on the occasion of the latter’s visit to Romania, at the invitation of the Romanian side.

The visit of the head of Italian diplomacy to Bucharest is taking place in the context of Russia’s illegal military aggression against Ukraine and Italy’s interest in supporting efforts to manage the Ukrainian refugee crisis, a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) sent to AGERPRES specified.

The meeting between the two senior officials will thus focus on ways to manage the multiple effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, including the serious humanitarian crisis generated by Russia’s illegal military intervention and its impact on regional, European and Euro-Atlantic security.

The talks will also address efforts to end the conflict, sanctions against the Russian Federation and measures to strengthen NATO’s Eastern Flank. Ways to streamline support for refugees and those affected by the war in Ukraine will also be analysed, as Italy was the first EU member state to use the Logistics Center for the storage and distribution of international humanitarian assistance in Suceava, starting with March 9, 2022.

Moreover, ways to develop and deepen the relationship of the Consolidated Strategic Partnership between the two countries, in the context of the broad Romanian-Italian political dialogue will be discussed at the meeting, as well as issues related to bilateral and sectoral economic cooperation, Italy being Romania’s second largest trading partner, the cited source said.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu and his counterpart will also have an exchange of views on a number of important European issues for Romania and Italy.

At the end of the consultations, Minister Bogdan Aurescu and Minister Luigi Di Maio will hold joint press statements.
