Self-census, the second stage of the census of population and housing in Romania, kicks off

The second stage of the Census of Population and Housing in Romania, self-census, kicked off on Monday, March 14th, the self-census platform on the www.recensamantromania.ro website being active from 00:00.

Self-census can be performed from any smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer.

The questionnaire for self-census is available in Romanian and in the languages of national minorities, as well as in English. The self-census questionnaire is available in total in 18 languages, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

The first stage of the population and housing census, the one of taking data from administrative sources started on February 1st, and the second, which consists of self-census, will take place between March 14th and May 15th.

The president of the National Institute of Statistics, Tudorel Andrei, announced on Friday in a press conference that people who will self-census will receive a day off from work.

The third stage of the census consists in the collection of data by the reviewers, through face-to-face interviews, during which the collected data will be recorded, with the help of tablets, in the electronic questionnaire. This phase will take place from May 16th to July 17th.

In the population and housing census, the stages of data collection and processing will be fully computerized.

According to the National Institute of Statistics, the information collected will be processed in accordance with the legislation in force on the protection of personal data (EU Regulation no.679/2016) and anonymized immediately after entering the system.

The population and housing census is carried out since last year in all EU Member States, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 763/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the census of population and housing and the corresponding implementing regulations, Agerpres informs.
