The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), said on Monday that a coalition discussion is needed on the flat tax and progressive taxation and also discussions with social partners and business representatives.
Asked how he comments on the statement of Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), who does not want to give up the flat tax, Ciolacu said that it is the latter’s opinion.
Ciolacu said that Romania needs to make a step forward, towards the developed countries.
“What path do we want for Romania? A developed path, like all the developed countries in the EU and not only, or do we want a country as outside, but with a fiscal system like in Russia?” said Ciolacu, at the Parliament Palace.
He claimed that he did not talk about the taxation of houses, but the external auditors, recalling that he was waiting for the analysis of the Ministry of Finance.
“I will provide you with a map of the globe, to see how many states have progressive taxation and how many have a flat tax,” added the PSD leader, according to Agerpres.
Ciolacu also said that this year there will be no new taxes, and regarding the capping of the prices of basic foods “there is a discussion”.
