The National Liberal Party (PNL) is the only big national party promoting economic and political Liberalism and guaranteeing governmental stability, economic development and moderation in the act of governance, PNL Chairman and Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said on Tuesday.
“The National Liberal Party is the only big national party promoting economic and political Liberalism, having a centre-right vision, and the older and recent history show us it is the party guaranteeing governmental stability, economic development and moderation in the act of governance. Our party, together with Romania’s President, his Excellency Mr. Klaus Werner Iohannis, represents the guarantee that supports with all strength Romania’s affiliation to the North-Atlantic Alliance and the European Union, assuming the values of western constitutional democracy,” Nicolae Ciuca said at the event organised at the Bratianu National Museum – Florica Villa of Stefanesti, on the occasion of the 147th anniversary of the establishment of the National Liberal Party.
He evoked the PNL history and the Bratianu family, conveying that “being a Liberal is not a mere choice of a political or economic doctrine, but a personality feature and a lifestyle.”
The Liberal leader also spoke of the features of the liberal state, mentioning that “all Liberals, regardless of them being National Liberal Party members or not, have the obligation to build it and protect it.”
Iohannis: The time for internal political fights in the PNL is over
President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday that the time for internal political fights in the National Liberal Party (PNL) has passed, noting that the party has made the necessary changes to ensure a leadership capable of guaranteeing a competent government that offers the chance of an election success in 2024.
“Dear liberals, the time for internal political fights is over, at least I think so and I believe you want the same thing. The PNL has made all the changes it deemed necessary to ensure a leadership capable of guaranteeing competent government to offer the chance of an electoral success in the future, more precisely in 2024. PNL has at this moment a leader, Mr. Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, elected with a solid majority of party members and thus we are in the situation that many wanted: the president of the PNL to be also the Prime Minister of the Romanian Government. Now, the absolute priority is to effectively manage these serious crises we are facing and to take the best measures in support of the population. The National Liberal Party has always been a party for the people, a party that ensures a stable government, with an Executive connected to the challenges of the moment,” President Iohannis told an event organized for marking 147 years since the founding of PNL.
He recalled that since taking office as president in 2014, his path had parted ways with the PNL, but he remained “always with the party”, with the same strong belief in liberal values and principles.
According to the head of state, the destiny of modern Romania is closely linked to the destiny of the PNL, to “the courage and wisdom of some visionary leaders, who contributed decisively to the reformation of the Romanian society”.
In his opinion, the PNL remained the same “strong” party, which did not abandon its doctrine, creed or values.
He noted that major challenges in recent years have led to decisions that have taken into account, first and foremost, the need for stability.
