H.E. Mr. RIM Kap-soo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea: Main priorities of my term in Romania- Boosting economic exchanges and focus on the strength of cultural diplomacy

Newly arrived in Bucharest in March, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania, H.E. Mr RIM Kap-soo, was kind enough to recently invite the “Nine O’Clock” ‘s management team to the Embassy headquarters for an exchange of views on the current context , but also on the prospects of the  bilateral relations between Romania and Korea.

His Excellency took the opportunity to present us the priorities of his mandate in Romania, but also to express his delight for as much as he could discover — in the short time since he started his mission here– about this country, about its potential and about the opportunities to enhance the cooperation between Romania and Korea and to imprint a new dynamic on the course of bilateral ties in all fields.

“The bilateral relations are excellent,” said the Ambassador. “But there is room for more, especially for economic relations and bilateral trade, currently below real potential”, His Excellency added.

Mr.  RIM Kap-soo expressed the hope that at the end of his three-year term here, the economic exchanges will be at a higher level. “I look forward to seeing more Korean investments here soon.”

In the Ambassador’s opinion, a direct flight route between Bucharest and Seoul, would favor the increase of the economic relations and of the Korean investments in Romania. But its establishment depends on several factors and although this subject is under discussion, its transposition into practice will not be at all simple.

According to the Korean Ambassador, the cultural diplomacy plays a crucial role in a better mutually promotion of the two countries and to develop a better mutually understanding of the two nations’ ideals and institutions in an effort to build broad support for economic and political goals.

It is for this reason why one of the main priorities of his mandate will be the development of this field, with special emphasis on boosting cultural and educational exchanges.

Determined to best represent his country’s interests in Romania, Mr. Ambassador said he would always be in close dialogue with Korean ambassadors in other countries in the area to jointly synchronize and enhance their efforts for better results.

His Excellency confessed to us on this occasion that he is a great admirer of Nine O’Clock, and that like many other foreign diplomats in Romania, he begins his daily work with its reading.

Wishing him a pleasant stay and prosperous mandate here, we thank Mr. Ambassador for his kind words of appreciation and assure him of all our openness to further develop the traditional partnership we have always had with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Romania.
