Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, president of the National Liberal Party (PNL) met with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, as well as with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on the sidelines of the European People’s Party congress, in Rotterdam a party’s release reads.
The PNL president also met with the new leader of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber.
During the meeting with Ursula Von der Leyen, Nicolae Ciuca expressed his support for the rapid implementation of the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation and strongly condemned the war of aggression unleashed by Vladimir Putin against Ukraine.
PNL chair invites European Parliament’s President Metsola in Romania
The National Liberal Party (PNL) President, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, had a meeting on Tuesday with the President of the European Parliament (EP), Roberta Metsola, on which occasion he invited her to Romania, emphasizing that our country relies on the EP’s support for accession to the Schengen Area.
The future of the EPP, the current agenda of the EU, as well as the expansion of the Schengen area were the topics addressed in the discussions with the EP President, Roberta Metsola, a press release issued by PNL informs.
“In my first meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, I emphasized Romania’s readiness to have a partnership with the European Parliament and invited her to Romania. I also emphasized that we rely on the full support of the European Parliament for accession into the Schengen Area,” Ciuca wrote on Twitter.
On this occasion, Ciuca reiterated that Romania’s accession to the Schengen area is a priority for our country, which relies on the full support of the European Parliament to achieve this objective.
He also had a meeting with the President of the Spanish People’s Party, Nunez Feijoo.
“The Romanian community in Spain plays an important role as a bridge for good cooperation between the two states. I discussed with Nunez Feijoo, the president of the People’s Party, about the measures that the Romanian Government is taking to address the ongoing economic challenges and I asked for the consolidation of the presence of Spanish companies in Romania”, the PNL leader wrote on Twitter.
Nicolae Ciuca also held talks with Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova, on the security situation in the region and Romania’s support in trying to obtain EU candidate status.
“We talked about Maia Sandu’s meetings with other EU leaders and about the support that the Republic of Moldova enjoys in the European community,” Ciuca said.
The President of the PNL, Nicolae Ciuca, is participating, on Tuesday and Wednesday, in Rotterdam, together with several liberals, in the Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP) in which the leadership of the EPP will be elected – president, vice-presidents, general secretary and treasurer.

National Liberal Party (PNL) President Nicolae Ciuca met on Tuesday on the sidelines of the European People’s Party (EPP) Congress in Rotterdam with EPP President Donald Tusk, who gave assurances about full support for Romania’s entry into the Schengen area.
“We talked about the political and economic situation in Romania and the European Union, as well as about future challenges. President Tusk gave assurances about his full support for Romania’s candidacy for Schengen,” Ciuca wrote on Twitter.
Also on the sidelines of the EPP Congress, Nicolae Ciuca met with the President of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union, Germany), Friedrich Merz, and with Petteri Orpo, President of Kokoomus (National Coalition Party, Finland).
“Success and wise decisions Friedrich Merz as CDU president,” Ciuca said on Twitter. He also wrote that “good cooperation between Romania and Germany goes beyond politics.”
At a meeting with Petteri Orpo, Prime Minister Ciuca conveyed support for NATO enlargement and Finland’s accession.
“I welcome Finland’s decision to formally apply for NATO membership. I am a strong supporter of NATO enlargement. Good luck next year Petteri Orpo, President of Kokoomus, in the parliamentary elections. I hope you will become the next Prime Minister,” Ciuca said on Twitter.
