Sphera Franchise Group has attained ISO 22000 certification, a reference standard in food safety, for all brands in its portfolio, in Romania

Sphera Franchise Group („Sphera”), the owner of the companies operating KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell brands in franchise system in Romania, Republic of Moldova and Italy, announces ISO 22000:2018 certification, which sets out the requirements for a food safety management system.

For Sphera, food safety has been and remains the number one priority. Since the inauguration of the first restaurant in Romania, in 1994, the group has been a benchmark in the food service industry for quality and food safety standards due to the strict procedures and processes taken over from Yum! franchisor, these being the operating conditions implemented internationally.

With the accession to the European Union and following the alignment with the legislation in force, the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) standard has been implemented to monitor all parameters with a potential impact on consumers’ health.

A specialized team takes care of all these aspects – Quality Department, which purpose is to ensure conformity with all relevant requirements, establishing key performance indicators for suppliers, monitoring their compliance, keeping in touch with the Quality department of Yum! Brands, as well as training and technical assistance for restaurant staff.

ISO 22000:2018 certification is a natural step for the brands in Sphera portfolio in Romania, and the benefits of implementing this standard include providing safe products for all customers, compliance with the applicable requirements of the regulatory authority regarding food safety, as well as improving the risk management in food safety processes.

“All our brands comply with strict quality and food safety standards since the inauguration of the first restaurant, opened 28 years ago, when, in Romania, there were no clear regulations in force. We can say that we have contributed to the creation of standards in the HoReCa industry from this point of view since we were already one step ahead. The ISO 22000: 2018 certification is proof that we keep our promises to our customers, but also to the fact that we are among the top operators of Yum! in the world”, stated Călin Ionescu, CEO of Sphera Franchise Group.

ISO 22000:2018 certification addresses to all organizations in the food industry regardless of their size or sector. At Sphera, the audit for certification was performed by SRAC, an accredited company for the certification of food safety management systems. With this certification, the companies in the group’s portfolio, from Romania, will be subject to supervisory audits for a period of two years.

Sphera Group operates over 170 restaurants in the three markets in which it activates (Romania, Moldova and Italy) and has over 4,700 employees.
