Deputies Chambers votes in favour of banning persons convicted by a court from running in presidential elections

The plenum of the Deputies Chamber on Wednesday adopted a legislative proposal that bannes participation in the presidential elections for such persons who are convicted by a court, at the date when they submit their candidacy.

The Plenum of the Chamber of Deputies adopted with 223 votes “in favour”, one “against” and 22 abstentions, the legislative proposal for the modification and completion of Law no. 370/2004 for the election of the President of Romania.

The Senate, as the first notified Chamber, rejected the legislative proposal in the meeting of November 20, 2017, and the Government said that the Parliament is the one that decides on the opportunity of its adoption.
