PSD to propose overtaxation by 40pct of big salaries and a two-step overtaxation of special pensions

PSD (Social Democratic Party) will propose, within the coalition, the 40pct overtaxation of the big salaries in the budgetary system that exceed the salary of the President of Romania, and a two-step overtaxation of special pensions, progressive deduction system for salaries below 4,500 lei, a contribution for Health and Education of 0.5pct of the turnover paid by companies with annual revenues of more than 100 million euros.

Given the principles of equity and social solidarity that must underpin the reform of the Romanian tax system, in PSD’s view it is necessary to differentiate the tax regime applied to taxpayers according to their income. Therefore, the new tax model must introduce higher taxes for those with high incomes and lower taxes for those with low incomes, according to the Social Democrats.

“In this respect, PSD will submit for debate within the governing coalition the following proposals: 1) overtaxation by 40pct of the big salaries in the budgetary system that exceed the salary of the President of Romania; 2) overtaxation in two stages of the special pensions (…); 3) application of a progressive system of deductions to salaries below 4,500 lei, so that the level of the minimum wage reaches a tax of 0pct, 4) a contribution to Health and Education of 0.5pct of the turnover paid by the companies that have annual revenues of more than 100 million euros. The measure will be temporary, being meant for a limited period of two years,” the PSD said in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
