PM Ciuca, Google Vice-President Bhatia discuss cyber-security threats, misinformation

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca on Thursday welcomed Google Vice President Karan Bhatia at the Government House to discuss the consequences of the ongoing Russian military aggression in Ukraine, threats in the field of cyber-security and disinformation, Romania’s digital transformation and the importance of the transatlantic partnership.

According to a government press statement, Ciuca highlighted the important role of Romania in the region as a pillar of stability, both within NATO and the EU.

“Digital transformation is the key to cutting through red tape, which will transform the administrative infrastructure into a better and more efficient one. At the same time, digital transformation will facilitate Romania’s transition to a more secure, dynamic and data-driven economy, in line with European strategic directions. Strengthening Google’s presence in Romania and its local development will contribute to the consolidation of the transatlantic partnership and to boosting research and development in Romania. We appreciate the support offered by Google in the fight against cyber threats and online misinformation,” Ciuca is quoted as saying in the statement.

The government points out that access to their digital services and their concrete applications depend on the capacity of the users to use them as use entails sustained efforts of digital education.
