The general consolidated budget deficit increased to 1.57% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) after the first five months of this year, from 1.23% of the GDP in January-April, according to the Ministry of Finance (MFP).
However, the negative balance is down by about 0.65 percentage points compared to the same period last year, when the budget closed the first five months with a deficit of 2.22% of the GDP.
“The execution of the general consolidated budget in the first five months of 2022 ended with a deficit of 20.90 billion lei, decreasing compared to the deficit of 26.18 billion lei registered in the same period of 2021. Expressed as a percentage of the Gross Domestic Product, the budget deficit registered a decrease (…) from 2.22% of the GDP to 1.57% of the GDP,” the Ministry of Finance shows.
