Petre Daea on Friday sworn-in as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace. Earlier in the day, President Klaus Iohannis signed the decree appointing him Minister of Agriculture.
On Wednesday, the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) voted unanimously for Petre Daea to return to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Former Minister of Agriculture Adrian Chesnoiu retired from office and suspended himself from the PSD, given that the national Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) requested a criminal investigation against Chesnoiu in a case in which he is accused of abuse of office.
The General Prosecutor sent to the Chamber of Deputies the DNA report for the exercise of the prerogative to request the criminal investigation against Adrian Chesnoiu, who is a deputy.
Subsequently, on June 28, the plenum of the Chamber of Deputies adopted the draft decision to lift Chesnoiu’s immunity, with 251 votes ‘for’ and 25 ‘against’, Agerpres informs.
“I have not committed any criminal deed or of corrupt nature and I have always carried out my executive activity with integrity and dedication,” the former minister wrote on his Facebook page at the time.
