Telekom Romania Mobile, together with Detusche Telekom, aims to support the volunteering of Generation Z, for whom involvement in social or environmental issues is very important.
82% of Generation Z members globally say they are active in one way or another when it comes to advocacy and activism, with the biggest motivation being impact on community, friends and family .
#WhatWeValue is a free-to-access global digital platform where socially engaged Gen Z communities can connect, learn from experienced social action leaders, amplify their own volunteer projects, discover opportunities, and have the chance to earn additional personalized and individualized support from Telekom. The platform uses NFT technology to turn digital connectivity into real value.
A digital community and an NFT for “good”
The platform it is open to volunteering project leaders aged 18 to 30 from all over Europe to host their own volunteering projects. Projects that meet the required criteria will be featured on the platform. Among the various categories for which projects are accepted are gender, racial and social equality, disability rights, climate change, urban regeneration, migration and many others.
Once verified, project leaders receive a “Value”, an NFT POAP that gives them exclusive access to valuable resources, including a Discord group dedicated to speaking engagements and live conversations with volunteer experts such as Bart Staszewsk, hosted by Jacqueline Azah. An NFT POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol), i.e. an NFT that proves participation in a project or experience and does not have a negative impact on the environment, like other NFTs.
“Through this program Telekom Mobile will provide tangible support to the winning projects, directly contributing to strengthening their volunteer causes. The company has already committed to provide real support to important projects by creating a dedicated digital volunteer recruitment campaign to stimulate participation and provide specialized equipment,” said Ruxandra Rău, Brand & Communication Strategy Director, Telekom Romania Mobile.
Creating Real World Impact
The #WhatWeValue online community can “boost” (like, share and follow) the projects submitted, which has an impact on the “value” (ranking) of the project as a whole. At the end of each month, the “most valuable” two projects will receive personalised support from Telekom Mobile to support their causes.
After a soft launch in June 2022, the platform already hosts more than 50 diverse projects from over 10 different countries: from the first Polish foundation fighting poverty and social exclusion, to a team using Artificial Intelligence to support speech and hearing impaired children in the Czech Republic or a platform used by visually impaired people to discover new friends and experiences in Romania.

#WhatWeValue will be supported by a series of activities hosted on the social media site Discord. Over 12 weeks, there will be a range of inspirational talks, conversations and stories from youth volunteering experts such as Amy & Ella Meek and more.
An ongoing commitment
The platform is part of an ongoing programme of activity Deutsche Telekom has developed specifically to empower young people through connected technologies. A part of an ongoing commitment to supporting Gen Z, #WhatWeValue follows on from the brand’s #WhatWeDoNext and #WeAreFutureproof campaigns, both of which highlighted the unique value of the first generation of true digital natives to building a more positive world.
The digitally focussed campaign will launch with a film directed by the award-winning Oliva Kastebring, featuring real young volunteers and riffing on the ‘NFT’ acronym to emotionally connect with the true potential of web3 technologies. It will run across Gen Z relevant social media platforms including Instagram, Twitch, Snapchat, Spotify and Tik Tok.
“Despite facing huge societal challenges, the younger generation is taking social responsibility seriously – they are campaigning, advocating, striving and taking action to bring about the real change they want to see in the world,” said Jacqueline Azah, youth activist and supporter of the project. “There is often a perception that online is not the way to achieve real change in the world, but in reality, connected technology has made the possibilities for voluntary action endless. “
