Lorie Tekorius, Greenbrier Companies CEO, in her first official visit to Romania

The American company has plans to expand its business on the local market

The American Greenbrier Companies group operates in Romania through the wagon manufacturer Astra Rail Industries, headquartered in Arad.

Lorie Tekorius, the new CEO of the American Group, is visiting the operations in Central Europe for the first time, having the expansion of the business in Romania on her list of priorities.

The market in Europe and Romania, in particular, represents significant opportunities for growth in the context of the European Union’s objective to double the share of goods traveling by rail, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions.

The first official visit of Lorie Tekorious took place in Arad, continuing with the other two cities where Astra Rail Industries operates on the local market: Drobeta-Turnu Severin and Caracal.

The Geenbrier CEO held meetings with both local authorities and Astra Rail management. The company’s objective is to grow the production capacity in Caracal, which also involves the development of new jobs within the company.

“We want to build an internal community within Astra Rail, much stronger and more active than it already is. We are already developing training programs for our employees to offer them the best professional training and we are investing in expanding our business in Romania. We also want to prove to the Romanian society that we are a responsible company that gets involved and supports the European Union’s efforts to support the reduction of carbon emissions. As the only player on the Romanian locomotive and wagon production market, we want to expand the business to be able to respond as best as possible to this endeavor, at the European level” – says Lorie Tekorius, CEO of Greenbrier Companies

The Astrail Rail factory in Caracal is one of the largest freight car factories in the world, with a covered area of 114,000 square meters.
