Israeli Ambassador Reuven Azar, Patriarch Daniel tackle restoration of Romanian settlement on Jordan River

The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, received, on Wednesday, at his residence, the new ambassador of the State of Israel to Romania, Reuven Azar, with whom he discussed the restoration of the Romanian settlement on the Jordan River and the pilgrimages organized in the Holy Land, the Patriarchate says in a statement sent to AGERPRES.

According to the source, Patriarch Daniel appreciated the rich diplomatic activity of the Israeli ambassador, underlining the good relations between Romania and Israel and expressed his hope that, in the shortest possible time, the Romanian settlement on the Jordan River will be restored to be later included in the circuit of pilgrimages from the Holy Land.

The new socio-political and economic context after 1989 led to the adoption of appropriate pastoral and missionary methods, including the organization of the new Romanian Orthodox communities in Western Europe, on the American continent and in other parts of the world, the Patriarch went on.

Ambassador Reuven Azar said that Romania is one of the favourite destinations of tourists from Israel, which is an impetus for even closer cooperation with the pilgrimage agency of the Romanian Orthodox Church. He added that he is particularly impressed by the power of religious faith in our country, compared to other European countries, the press release states.

The ambassador added that, in preserving the ethnic and religious identity of the Jewish community in Romania, the Romanian Orthodox Church had an important role, as a factor of social peace, both in the past and in the present, being steadfast, over time, good relations with the members of the Federation of Jewish Communities from Romania, the Sector of church, interreligious relations and external church communities of the Romanian Patriarchate also informs.
