Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca had a meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography Dubravka Suica, on Thursday, at the Victoria Palace of Government, with whom he discussed the need for policies that respond to demographic challenges that Europe is facing, informs the Executive in a press release.
The Romanian Prime Minister appreciated the substantial contribution of the vice-president of the European Commission in coordinating the activities related to the Conference on the Future of Europe, emphasizing the need for the evaluation process of the recommendations resulting from the conference to result in the transposition of those priorities and directions of action with real resonance for European citizens. Maintaining the unity and cohesion of the member states, together with the firm support for the democratic values of the Union, represent an essential common task, even more so in the current geostrategic context, the release says.
The Head of the Executive emphasized the importance of implementing the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for the development of the economy and the reformation of society, as well as the considerable added value of the European funds for development and cohesion.
Appreciating the support of the European Commission for the enlargement of the Schengen area, the prime minister expressed his hope that Romania will obtain a positive political decision regarding the accession to this free movement area, the press release further shows.
Bucharest Mayor Dan: I talked about the centers subordinated to the General Directorate of Social Assistance of the Municipality of Bucharest that offer services to Ukrainians settled in Bucharest
The General Mayor of the Capital, Nicusor Dan, discussed, on Thursday, with the Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Suica, about the measures taken by the municipality regarding the management of the flow of refugees from Ukraine.
“I talked about the centers subordinated to the General Directorate of Social Assistance of the Municipality of Bucharest that offer services to Ukrainians settled in Bucharest. On this occasion, Mrs. Dubravka Suica visited one of these centers, the Ominis Social Services Complex, where the refugees are offered the following facilities: day care center for Ukrainian children, social laundry, library, etc.,” stated Nicusor Dan, in a post on Facebook.
According to the mayor, Dubravka Suica spoke about the European Commission’s project to involve the citizens of all member states in the implementation of European policies, through a digital platform.
“A public forum was thus created for an open debate, Romania being represented by citizens interested in such issues. This first step ended with 49 proposals addressed to the presidents of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission and they covered topics such as: climate change and the environment, healthcare, a stronger economy, social justice and jobs, values and rights, etc. Were also addressed topics such as the implementation of projects with European funding for demographic recovery or accessing new programmes with non-reimbursable funds, including in the field of energy efficiency,” mentioned Nicusor Dan.
