President Klaus Iohannis conveyed Romania’s condolences on Monday to the families of the victims of the earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.
“Our thoughts go out to the victims and their families after the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria. I convey sincere condolences on behalf of Romania to the families of the victims and I wish speedy recovery to the injured. Romania stands in solidarity with those affected by this tragedy,” the Romanian head of state wrote on Monday, on Twitter.
Two military aircraft taking Romanian first responders to earthquake-stricken Turkey
A C-130 Hercules and a C-27J Spartan transport plane belonging to the Romanian Air Force are on a mission on Monday to dispatch to Turkey assistance materials and an urban search and rescue team of the General Emergency Inspectorate, the National Defence Ministry informs.
The experts will act as first responders in support of the population affected by the deadly earthquake that hit Turkey on Monday morning.
The military aircraft will take off from the 90th Airlift Transport Base in Otopeni with the destination Adana.
DSU: Complex support team consisting of 58 people will be sent to Turkey
A complex support team consisting of 58 people will be sent to Turkey, the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) announced.
The support of the Romanian state offered to Turkey consists in sending a complex team made up of: the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) RO-USAR specialized search and rescue forces, with two dogs and related equipment, the search and rescue team with two dogs trained for such situations with the Working Dog Club (Clubul Cainilor Utilitari), physicians and nurses with UPU-SMURD Bucharest (Floreasca), liaison officers with DSU.
Thus, with the support of the Ministry of National Defence, two aircraft belonging to the Romanian Air Force will carry out an international support mission in Turkey on Monday, departing from Bucharest, with the Romanian rescue teams and related specialized equipment on board, in order to assist to the Turkish authorities, heavily affected by the earthquake, says DSU, on its Facebook page.
Ten Romanian nationals request consular repatriation assistance after Turkey earthquake
The Foreign Affairs Ministry informs that 10 Romanian citizens – a teacher and 9 Erasmus students – called the emergency hotline of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara after the powerful earthquake that hit south-eastern Turkey on Monday. The group were staying at a hotel in the city of Kahramanmaras, which was also affected by the tremor, and requested consular assistance and support for repatriation; they reported that they are safe.
The group of Romanian citizens, made up of nine students and a coordinating teacher who are in Turkey and requested consular assistance and support for repatriation, will return to Romania with one of the Ministry of National Defence’s aircraft.
According to the Foreign Ministry, a mobile consular team of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara is underway to Kahramanmaras with two vehicles in order to pick up the Romanian citizens; details regarding their transport to Romania will be established later.
The Foreign Ministry mentions that Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the following phone numbers of the Romanian Embassy in Ankara: +90.312.447.7945 and +90.312.447.7940, the calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center for Romanian Citizens Abroad and handled by call center operators 24/7.
