Despite difficult economic conditions, Romanians continue to be generous: Over 4.3 million lei donated through Galantom.ro in 2022

Galantom.ro, the peer-to-peer fundraising platform initiated by OneKind Association and People for Sport Association, presents the main results achieved in 2022.

In 2022, 4,360,718 lei were raised on Galantom.ro, an increase of 4% compared to the previous year, from 29,977 total donations made to social causes on the platform.

Last year, on Galantom.ro, 472 projects implemented by 230 non-profit organizations were supported with donations. Also, 2,819 fundraising pages were created and the biggest donation made on the platform was 33,000 lei.

According to the data available on the platform, there is a consistent top ranking in recent years for the most supported areas, namely projects supporting health, education, human rights and social inclusion. Health received 28% of the total 29,977 donations made on the platform in 2022, education received 22% of donations and human rights and social inclusion 18% of donations.

At the same time, support for humanitarian aid projects continued to grow, with a 50% increase in donations and a 116% increase in the value of donations.

The most popular fundraising tool on Galantom.ro remained birthday giving, ensuring 41% of the total value of donations, while participation in sporting events on behalf of a cause ranked second, with 23% of the total value of donations. Other tools used by fundraisers were Dar Galantom and Santa Claus Galantom.

  • Give Your Birthday – ended 2022 with a total of 11,974 donations, worth 1,800,797 lei from 1,304 birthdays given on the platform;
  • Sports events – a total of 7,791 donations, worth 1,004,822 lei, from 1,158 fundraising pages created;
  • 30 day Fundraising Challenge – achieved 2,460 donations, worth 451,343 lei;

After a very challenging year in 2021, when donations on the platform saw a considerable drop, we are happy that in 2022 we were back on the rise, even if we are talking about a slight increase of 4%. This motivates us going forward, especially as this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Galantom project, which has helped tens of thousands of people so far.

At the same time, the year 2023 is doubly important for us, as we are working on launching two online donation tools that will help digitalize fundraising for non-profit organizations in Romania. We are talking about two solutions that help organizations receive donations by card: one through online payment on the organization’s website and the other through POS,” said Andrei Chirtoc, co-founder of OneKind Association and Project Manager Galantom.ro.

Among the organizations that attracted the most money on Galantom.ro in 2022 are Hope and Homes for Children Romania, Magic Association and HOSPICE Casa Speranței.

World swimming champion David Popovici raised the largest amount last year through Galantom, 218,455 lei from nearly 3,000 donations on behalf of Hope and Homes for Children. David donated his helmet and goggles by drawing lots to a donor, demonstrating that he is not only a champion swimmer, but also a champion of good deeds, by getting involved so that Florentina Filipovici, world rowing vice-champion, and her three children can build a house.

Another great soul who deserves gratitude is Liana Alexandru, who once again gave her birthday through Galantom, raising 15,778 lei for the Association Eu, Tu și Ei, with the aim of making a library for children in a remote village in Vrancea.

Actor Marius Manole organized two fundraising campaigns in 2022, through Give Your Birthday and Santa Claus Galantom. These campaigns raised 15,693 lei, which went to the One Rescue Association and Save the Children Iasi.

Soprano Irina Baianț inspired the community of generous people with a wonderful gesture on the eve of the winter holidays, donating her performance of the Christmas Carol song. She raised 4,682 lei for the care of vulnerable children at CASA MARIA.

Demographically, the 2022 results are similar to the 2021 results, from which we observed that women donate more frequently than men, with 63% vs 37% of total donations. The 35 – 44 age group is the largest donor category – 29%, while the 25 – 34 and 45 – 54 age groups are almost equal with 24% and 25% of donors, respectively.
