Ionut Stroe: Romania is listened to in EU – 30 million euros for farmers, ban on Ukrainian cereal import until June 5

National Liberal Party (PNL) Spokesman Ionut Stroe says that Romania is being listened to in the European Union, after the European Commission proposed a new 30-million-euro support for Romanian farmers, with the import of cereals from Ukraine to Romania to be stopped until June 5.

“Romania is listened to in the EU, if we know to pursue our interests. The voice of Romanian farmers has been heard at European level. The first good piece of news is that money aid from the EU will arrive very soon, after the European Commission proposed a new support of about 30 million euros for our country. This is in addition to the 20 million euros, half from European funds and half already approved by the Ciuca Government. Equally important, a temporary ban is being put on grain from Ukraine. Our farmers and the market need a moment of respite, time to make the best decisions. Until June 5, the import of cereals from Ukraine to Romania will be stopped, following the activation of the safeguard clause by the European Commission. Here it can be done. We have to be smart and use all the pressure we can to get the EU to give us justice. Romania must continue to promote its interests at European level in the same way proposed by the PNL, which has proved to be the winning one for us. The actions and negotiations conducted by Prime Minister Nicolae Ionel Ciuca and President Klaus Iohannis have borne fruit,” Stroe wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

Romania will receive almost 30 million euros from the European Commission to support farmers affected by cheap grain imports from Ukraine, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Petre Daea announced on Tuesday.
