Black Sea Strategy – discussed by DefMin Angel Tilvar with US Assistant Secretary Jessica Lewis
The Minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, had a meeting with Jessica Lewis – assistant secretary for political-military relations within the US State Department – a context in which the two talked about the security situation generated by the war of aggression launched by the Russian Federation in Ukraine and about the implications for Euro-Atlantic security, emphasizing the importance of consolidating a US strategy in the Black Sea.
According to a press release from the Defense Ministry (MApN), the visit “represents a reconfirmation of the excellent relations on the security dimension within the Romanian-American Strategic Partnership, a major component of our country’s foreign and security policy”.
In addition, in this context, the decisions of the Madrid summit were brought to attention, respectively the measures to strengthen the defense and deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank and the way of their implementation, including in the perspective of the upcoming NATO Summit in Vilnius.
The Romanian official reiterated the importance of maintaining allied solidarity, “the full implementation of the decisions taken by the allied leaders during the Madrid Summit, the strengthening of NATO’s deterrence and defense position in the Black Sea, the importance of decisions aimed at concrete ways of supporting the partners in the region – Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia”.
